about US
HOJO Family Assistance Program is a family operated not-for-profit that is based in the North Lawndale neighborhood of Chicago, IL. We have been helping families in need of assistance within the Chicagoland area since 2006, but in 2017 we decided to make it official and file for our 501(c)3 status.

Our story begins with former Chicago Bull, Wallace E. "Mickey" Johnson, and his mission to help the families who live in the area where he grew up. Every week he would volunteer at a neighborhood church by speaking to families and serving with the food pantry. Along the way, more family members joined the volunteer mission and the pantry started to reach new members of the community in need of assistance. Eventually, the operation extended beyond the church and the HOJO family decided to make it a priority to expand our reach to more neighborhoods in the Chicagoland area.
